A Tribute to Charles Barrington Chase

The people in attendance are here to honour multi-millionaire and philanthropist, Charles Barrington Chase, who at age 75 has announced his retirement from business to devote more time to his charitable activities.

Just as proceedings are underway, Detective Columbia enters the room and announces that Mr. Chase has been found outside in his car, murdered. He also informs the audience that the murderer or murderers are believed to be among the attendees and has therefore ordered a lock-down of the building: No one is to enter or leave until the suspect(s) are apprehended.

‘Til Death Us Do Part

The banquet hall is the scene of the Bakon - Heggs wedding. Bobby Bakon, son of the notorious crime boss, Billy Bakon, is marrying the lovely Heather Heggs. Unfortunately the Bakon family is still in shock after the recent murder of the wife and mother, Roberta.

Ten days ago the car that Billy, Roberta and their bodyguard were riding in was destroyed in a huge explosion. Luckily, for him, Billy had just left the car to “relieve” himself only a minute or two before the massive bomb-blast tore through the vehicle, killing the others.
This wedding was supposed to take place at a local church, but it was destroyed due to a mysterious fire the previous evening.

Through all this, Bobby and Heather have carried on with their wedding plans and have dedicated this day to Roberta’s memory.
It is a small wedding party (others having been scared away by the violence). Other than the bride and groom, the father of the groom will be in attendance, as will be the bride’s aunt, Hilda Heggs. Also in attendance will be Bessie Bakon, the groom’s aunt and Hillary Heggs, the bride’s sister and maid of honour.

Other people connected to the wedding are a priest, who, after the recent and frightening circumstances, appears very nervous and unsure of himself and the newly-hired bodyguard who, given those same circumstances, seems very dedicated to his new job. Lastly, the wedding and its participants have also caught the attention of the internationally famous sleuth, Inspector Clue-Doh!

Three’s A Crowd

A few years ago, three long-time friends formed a band. It contained, simply, a lead guitar, bass, and drums. They loved their music and were very happy with their little group. That was until the drummer met and fell in love with a girl, named Ono Nott-Yoko. They were soon married. From that point on, things changed for the three lads and not for the better. At first, Ono just wanted to be part of the band. She wanted to sing or shake her maracas, but she did it all rather badly. Soon she wanted to write songs for them to sing (they were very bad songs) and then she wanted to change the band’s image and style. The three friends survived her interference and soon she became bored with her musical adventures and moved on to more serious pursuits. At about that time she also became bored with her husband, the drummer, and thought it would be good fun to flirt and tease the two other band members, wrapping them around her finger as she did so. Soon all three in the band secretly shared the same strong love for Ono Nott-Yoko. This did what her previous meddling could not, it ripped the band apart and they spent more time arguing and fighting than playing music.

Last month, the inevitable happened - the drummer was murdered. He was found slumped over the steering wheel of his car, parked in his own driveway, stabbed through the heart. Quite naturally, the not-too grieving widow and the two remaining band members have come under intense police scrutiny since that time.

Today is a memorial performance of sorts; the first without their drummer and it will be their last together. In the short time since her husband’s death, Ono has taken up with the lead singer/guitar player and intends to be part of the tribute, shaking her maracas as only she can.

The Wine County Murders

The Merlot brothers, Mickey and Max, run a wine distribution company. Neither is a very nice person and will use extortion or coercion, strong-arm tactics, threats, or whatever they think necessary to get their wines into restaurants or retail outlets. Also, in order to increase their profit margins, they do not hesitate to alter their product, water it down, or change labels, using an inferior, cheaper wine instead. Their methods have ruined many people and made many more very, very angry.

Tonight, circumstance has brought a few of these people together:
A once well- known and respected food and wine critic, her career and reputation now ruined, has come to confront them.

Also, a couple representing a once proud and well-established winery are here to try to save their business from the brothers and total ruin.

Early in the evening, outside in the parking lot, there is a violent confrontation between Max Merlot and one of these characters. As a result, Max is fatally stabbed in the neck with a corkscrew. When the body is discovered and the authorities summoned, the subsequent investigation takes place in the restaurant, bringing all the characters together.

The Norpac Nine

It has come to light that a plot is being hatched to kill Clevor Spindley, the president of NORPAC Controls. The person behind this plot is Cleve Stabansee, who intends to replace Spindley as the head of this very successful company. To help him in his attempt, Stabansee has enlisted the help of the toughest gang in BC, The Nefarious NORPAC Nine! Lead by Don Rumball, a.k.a. “the Don”,and his right hand man, Percy Poindexter, other gang members include Lark Chirpback, Gabriel Snickers, Hal Watchyerback, Harry Bourbonspill, Boozanne Slosh and Ahandon Herendsy (pronounced ‘a hand on her end, see”).

Unknown to the NORPAC Nine, Spindley has retained the internationally known firm of mercenaries, The Dirty (1/2)Dozen, to protect him. This group of cold-blooded assassins is in no mood to be messed with, especially following last night’s murder of their boss, Larry Lovelorn. Concerned over what may occur tonight, Larry left home to get more bullets for his gun. He was killed when he started his car and it exploded in a huge fireball. The Dirty (1/2) Dozen suspect the NORPAC Nine and are out for revenge. Tonight both sides will meet in what will certainly be a bloody showdown!

Medical Complications

The Safe Syringe Supply Co., a local business that manufactures syringes, has a rather unique patent pending: A patent on a Personal Laser Lobotomy Machine! Company members are here tonight seeking investors for the machine’s development.

Carestream Medical Ltd., the host of this cruise, is being offered twenty-five percent of the proposed new company because of their experience in the medical equipment market and their existing distribution network. Also in attendance and being offered a twenty-five percent share is Carmella Crème, a representative of an unnamed investor group.

The president of The S.S.S. Co., Andre-Marc Broisvert, (known as A.M.), was always very private and therefore hesitant to seek funding from outside sources. However, a month ago, he was found dead, murdered, in his office. This recent flurry of investor seeking has been instituted by his successor, Mr. Paul Martin, (known as P.M.).

A few other interested parties are also here, some to help and some to hinder the proceedings.

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer

One Christmas there was a terrible tragedy – the kind of event that is often immortalized in song:

“Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walking home from our house Christmas Eve.
You can say there’s no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

She’d been drinking too much eggnog and we warned her not to go,
But she forgot her medication and she staggered out the door into the snow.

When we found her Christmas morning, at the scene of the attack,
There were hoof prints on her forehead and incriminating claw marks on her back …”

Now, some years later and after a very lengthy investigation into herdeath, the authorities are preparing to charge Santa Claus with Vehicular Homicide! This could not only change Christmas as we know it, but could threaten its very existence!! The law firm of Mistle, Toe and Holly has been retained to defend Santa by the E.L.F. (Elves’ Legal Fund).

After extensive studies, it has been determined that, due to their high collective intellect and their above average reasoning abilities, the employees and guests of the BC Landscape and Nursery Association would be an ideal test group for the defense team’s strategies. Therefore, on the second of December, we will be there to ask for their help to not only save Santa but, quite possibly, to save Christmas as well.

The Yuletide Murders

History: Forty-five years ago Tim Yule and Ted Tide, longtime friends, partnered in business. Tim was a candy-maker by trade and had developed a candy cane that tasted better and was more nutritious than anything else on the market. Ted was a “money-man” who, even at his young age, was approaching his first million.

The business was a success, although it took all of Tim’s abilities and all of Ted’s money to make it so. After five years of work, the partners were offered a $5,000,000.00 buy-out by a large, national candy firm. This was everything that Tide had dreamed about! But Yule would have nothing to do with the offer. This was the last straw and a huge disagreement erupted that resulted in the death of Ted Tide.

Although murder was strongly suspected, Tim Yule stuck to his story that it was Ted who pulled a knife and attacked him. In the resulting struggle the knife was somehow turned and the attacker suffered the fatal wound, not his intended victim. After a thorough police investigation, not enough evidence could be found to overcome this story and the case was eventually dropped.

That death was exactly forty years ago tonight!

Tonight: Since the death of Ted Tide forty years ago, the two families have been involved in a very nasty feud. Their deep hatred for each other has boiled over once or twice in that time, but they have never spoken to each other and go out of their way to avoid all contact.

Imagine their surprise and horror tonight as the Yule/Tide families discover that they are at the same function! Neither family will give the other the satisfaction of watching them leave, so they must stick it out and take whatever the night holds in store for them.
